The Tailwarden dashboard provides an entry point into Tailwarden and an overview of your entire cloud infrastructure. If you've connected multiple cloud accounts from various providers, you'll find a summary on the dashboard.
The dashboard widget by widget
The top bar.
The top bar offers high-level figures on your overall cloud infrastructure:
Resources: The total number of resources collected by Tailwarden. Note that there might be resources in your cloud accounts that Tailwarden doesn't collect for specific cloud accounts. Check here for the list of services supported by Tailwarden.
Cloud accounts: The total number of cloud accounts connected.
Regions: The total number of regions where you have at least one resource.
Cost: The total costs for the resources collected by Tailwarden. To get this figure, you need to activate the "granular insights" feature as mentioned here. Please be advised that to have the entire costs of your cloud infrastructure, including costs due to services not attached to resources (e.g., data transfer), you need to access the cost report.
Total cost evolution widget
This widget helps you identify the cost trends for your entire cloud infrastructure. It includes two filters:
All accounts: Allows you to filter out specific cloud accounts connected to Tailwarden.
Date picker:
This month: Last 30 days including today.
Last month: Last calendar month.
Last 3 months: Last 90 days including today.
Last 6 months: Last 180 days including today.
Most expensive services/resources widget
This widget shows you the most expensive services or resources. It has two parameters:
Services/Resources: Choose to identify either the most expensive services or resources.
Date picker:
This month: Last 30 days including today.
Last month: Last calendar month.
Last 3 months: Last 90 days including today.
Last 6 months: Last 180 days including today.
Limitations of this widget:
The cost of BigQuery tables cannot be split per resource. Therefore, you will find the same figure for BigQuery whether you group by resources or services.
Service "Invoice": In cases where AWS underestimates or overestimates the costs of certain resources, they charge an "Invoice" line at the end of the month, which is the sum of their wrong estimation.
Cloud map widget
The cloud map shows where your resources are located. Clicking on a point brings you to the inventory with a list of resources in that specific region.
Tags coverage widget
This widget provides a quick view of the number of resources tagged versus those without any tags in your cloud infrastructure. Like the cloud map widget, clicking on the pie chart brings you to the inventory with either all the resources with at least one tag or all the untagged resources.
There's one parameter here:
All resources: Allows you to select either all resources or a specific view. Learn more about views here.
Current limitation of the dashboard
For now, the dashboard cannot be customized, but this feature will be available in the future.
