Views are a cornerstone of Tailwarden, enabling you to group your infrastructure into meaningful blocks such as product, team, or environment.

How to create a view

To create a view, navigate to the inventory and apply filters (learn how to use filters here). Save the filtered resources as a view by choosing a name, icon, and visibility (private or team). Easily adjust settings later.

You can then access your list of views on the left hand side of the inventory.

Views play a crucial role in various Tailwarden features, from setting up alerts and digests to filtering cost reports and establishing policies.

Example of useful views

  • Product-Centric Views: Create views tailored for specific products, easily shared with product managers or software engineers for focused insights into their respective teams.

  • FinOps or Finance Views: Craft views dedicated to FinOps or finance teams, providing a simplified understanding of costs within a specific part of the infrastructure. Empower finance professionals without relying solely on cloud provider tools.

  • Views for Specific Development Environments: Craft views tailored for each development stage, providing a focused perspective on resources and costs. Empower developers to efficiently manage infrastructure related to their respective development environment without unnecessary complexity.

  • Views for Security Teams Focusing on Compliance: Tailor views to filter resources based on compliance parameters, offering security teams a dedicated and streamlined view. This enables quick assessments of compliance-related aspects, fostering a secure and compliant infrastructure without the need for intricate navigation through cloud provider tools.

  • Views for Network Administrators Overseeing Connectivity: Create views that group resources by network-related criteria, offering network administrators a centralized perspective. This facilitates efficient monitoring and troubleshooting of connectivity issues, ensuring a smooth and reliable network infrastructure.

  • Views for DevOps Teams Managing Continuous Integration and Deployment: Develop views organizing resources linked to specific applications or CI/CD pipelines. This specialized view empowers DevOps teams to focus on infrastructure components supporting their deployment processes, streamlining continuous integration and deployment management.
