The Challenge: Finding the most expensive s3

In this third round, we tackle the task of finding the most expensive s3 of multiple cloud accounts on AWS.

AWS Method:

  1. Open Cost Explorer

  2. Group by Resource

  3. Get an error

  4. Why don't they provide a link for this? Ok let's search for this.

  5. Type Cost Management Preferences in the search bar ... It doesn't appear.

  6. Ok, let's type look for it on the page directly. Ok - click on Cost Management Preferes on the left hand side.

  7. Click on Tab Cost Explorer

  8. Click on "Resource Level data at daily granularity"

  9. You have to select which services .... Ok so let's do s3

  10. What it incurs some costs but they don't tell you how much 😠?

  11. Open AWS pricing calculator as they suggested.

  12. I don't understand, is it 2290 Daily or Monthly usage records?

  13. Wait, they need 48 hours?

  14. Come back 48 hours later on cost explorer

  15. Group by resources.

  16. Filter S3

  17. Review this awful table and finally identify the most expensive S3

  18. Realize that granular data at resource level is only for 14 days.. so it means you will never be able to have the most expensive S3 for one month.
