The Tag Audit feature provides a comprehensive overview of your tags, helping you quickly identify duplicates or typos.

How to access your Tag Audit

To access the Tag Audit, first ensure you have connected at least one cloud account. Once done, navigate to 'Compliance' and then select 'Tag Audit.'

Understanding the Tag Audit

Upon accessing the Tag Audit, you'll encounter several filters:

  • All Resources: This filter allows you to narrow down your view based on the configurations created in the inventory (learn more about views here).

  • All Tag Types: Select between virtual tags (details here), provider tags, or both.

You can then organize the data by key, key & value, or dimensions:

  • Group by Key: Focuses solely on keys, displaying the number of resources associated with each key.

  • Group by Key & Value: Offers a more detailed view, showing both keys and their corresponding values.

  • Group by Dimension: coming soon

These filters and grouping options will alter the outputs of your Tag Audit.

At the top of the page, you'll find a summary, including:

  • Total Number of Unique Tags: The overall count of distinct tags.

  • Covered Resources: Number of resources with at least one tag.

  • Uncovered Resources: Resources without any tags.

Finally, the most important part of the tag audit, the table:

  • Key: The specific tag key.

  • Values: Lists of values for this key (group by key) or the value for this tag (group by key & value).

  • Resources: Number of resources associated with this tag.

  • Coverage Rate: Percentage of resources with this tag.

  • Type: Indicates whether it's a Provider Tag or Virtual Tag.

Clicking on a row allows deeper exploration of resources associated with a specific key or key-value pair in the inventory.

Leveraging your Tag Audit

Here's a few examples on how to use your Tag Audit to enhance your cloud infrastructure:

  • Identify Typos or Duplicates: E.g., 'env' vs. 'Env' vs. 'Environment'. Sort by key for easier identification.

  • Check Common Duplicates: For instance, 'stage' vs. 'environment' or 'product' vs. 'project'.

  • Unnecessary Single-Resource Tags: Tags (key or key-value) linked to only one resource may not be needed. Sort by the number of resources (ascending) to spot these.
