This guide is dedicated to helping you understand and effectively utilize the User Management system within Tailwarden. One important point: User management system within Tailwarden is at the cloud account level.
Overview
Tailwarden's User Management system is designed to provide granular control over access to your cloud infrastructure. By setting up a cloud account, you can assign specific roles to each team member, ensuring that they have the appropriate level of access to perform their tasks efficiently and securely.
In case you setup an organization account, you can still review permissions for each member account or set permissions for all of them at the same time.
Roles and Permissions
There are two primary roles you can assign to your team members:
Editor
Capabilities:
Update and delete the connection for this specific cloud account.
View all data within the cloud account.
Modify access permissions for other users.
Update virtual tags and creation dates for resources
Ideal for: Team members who are responsible for managing and maintaining the cloud infrastructure.
Viewer
Capabilities:
View all data within the cloud account.
Update virtual tags and creation dates for resources
Ideal for: Team members who need to monitor and analyze data but do not require full administrative control.
And of course, an user can have no permissions at all.
Important Considerations with Views and Cost Reports
Non-Overlapping Access: It's crucial to understand that permissions in Tailwarden do not overlap. For instance, if you set up a view and share it with your team, any team member who does not have access to the specific cloud accounts included in that view will not be able to see the data in those accounts. This feature ensures that sensitive data remains secure and is only accessible to authorized personnel.
Setting Up User Roles
To set up user roles in Tailwarden, follow these steps:
Access the Cloud Account: Navigate to the cloud account you wish to manage.
Select Team Members & Assign Roles: Choose the team members you want to assign roles to. Assign either the 'Editor' or 'Viewer' role based on their responsibilities and access needs
Update Roles: You can also edit the role of an already existing user
